These programs are to help wounded service members from the New Jersey area returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Typically, the first stops for these soldiers are medical facilities such as Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Navy Hospital. Soldiers then transition from treatment for their injuries to rehabilitation. Rehabilitation may be conducted at the cited medical facilities, or the soldiers may be transitioned to facilities in New Jersey such as the Kessler Rehabilitation Centers, local hospitals, and the Lyons Campus of the VA NJ Health Care System in Lyons, New Jersey. It is at this time that a gap begins to appear in the support provided to the soldier by the normal Army benefits program - a gap that our Chapter would like to try and address. Shortfalls are common in providing family lodging near the soldier and various other unreimbursed expenses.
